I was both dreading and looking forward to this book. I loved this series from the moment Stephen spilled his coffee on the stairs, to their I Dos, and now when they start the next leg of their journey: parenthood.I mean, it’s only ‘natural’, right? Not necessarily! Stephen and Russ have had the family discussion. They were on the same page. No kids. Life is funny, sometimes, and can turn on a dime. After filling in at a center for kids who need a place to go, Russ starts having thoughts that he can’t shake, and wonders if he can change Stephen’s mind as well. He wants them to become foster parents to a teenager who needs someone to give them a chance. This was a beautiful story, and such a perfect way to end a series. Stephen and Russ have weaseled their way into my heart. They just make me smile. Best fictitious couple of the year. They’ve come a long way in their relationship, and their love for each other is evident. They’re not lacking the heat, either! Valentine’s Day may never be the same after reading how theirs went. Hubba hubba. The writing was superbly done. The imagery was spot on throughout the entire book. I didn’t feel like I was reading a book. I felt like I was in the story, living it. As usual, I got lost in Russ and Stephen's land. I found myself wanting to read book one all over again, before I even finished chapter 2. This series is absolutely going with my favorite rereads. The story may be over, but I’m not ready to say goodbye. I’m not sure I ever will be.The characters are some of my favorites. We get to see Evan and Jeremy again. The workers at Open Doors were fantastic, and Marcus was a godsend. I found myself hoping Austin and Toby get a book sometime down the road. I feel it in my bones. There’s a story there. Now, if they’d just start conversing with Brigham Vaughn, that’d be great. (Get on it, boys!)***Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure. A review wasn’t a requirement. *** Russ and Stephen were settled into married life. Their careers were booming and they were happy. They volunteered at Open Doors, a LGBTQ community center as a form of giving back and reaching out to help others. Russ, met a preteen, Austin at the center and felt an empathetic pull, while not really understanding why. He and his sister , Kellie were in the foster care system until she aged out. Austin spent a lot of time returning to the center to look for Kellie who chose to live out of her car. Russ and STephen decided to apply to be foster parents hoping they would get assigned Austin. Do they qualify as a couple? Are they lucky enough to be approved to foster Austin? Does Austin find Kellie? Does new parenting strain Russ and Stephen's relationship? Do they have a good support system in old friends and family? Absolutely delifhtful and excellent story flow. The characters are strong and likeable. Well done! I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
