I liked Macomber's Dakota novels, despite the constant repetitions of conception, births and pregnancies, and given the farmscape, I cd. overlook the totally whitebread, almost wholly middle-class cast of characters. It prob helped that I read the Little House on the Prairie series for the first time this year, so the violent Dakota winters were in Macomber's work more like entering a familiar scene. So I embarked on the Cedar Cover series as a follow-up.This series, however, I found disappointing. The wholly white, completely middleclass, absolutely straight in every way characters wd. have been OK, though out of touch with probable reality even in the area round Seattle, but...!The women were all so twitty, so bent on doing stupid things for no reason, refusing to actually have relationships with their children's fathers, their true loves, their suddenly ex-husbands, the action was almost completely composed of white small town women's meetings, restaurants, festive occasions, with never a sign of a homeless, let alone a black or Hispanic person, the writing began to jar with its repeated boilerpate sex scenes - if I had read one more scene where the guy "lowers" his mouth to the woman's I think I might have hurled even my Kindle into a wall. The pregnancies and the toddlers and babies were all prevalent, and I was *tired* of them - and the writing was far clunkier than in the Dakota books. Not to mention that these were both slow-moving and repetitive. If I had the background of the unknown John Doe in the BnB explained to me once I had it done ten times, and in just the ONE book, not over the series. And the relationships of Justine and her mother Olivia, Olivia and her eventual lover Jack and Maryellen and her lover cum-father of her child moved with all the speed and excitement of a moribund glacier. It took Three Books for all of those to sort out, and at the end of the 4th, which I gave in and looked ahead at, the mystery/murder of John-Doe in the BnB was STILL not sorted out.At that point I said, First World White Problems Writ Far Too Large, and didn't bother to read the 4th book. Too slow, too trivial, wayyyyyyy too tunnel-visioned for what I see in the world in 2019. And they don't seem to have been written earlier than 2015. Not my cup of coffee, thanx.I found this I love Debbie Macomber!! Her Hallmark movies were where I first heard about her, I didn't know that it was based on her novels, after searching through books I found her online. She had written a small story about Cedar Cove and her fans loved it, so she wrote a series on Cedar Cove.. and I'm glad that that happened, because I love the Cedar Cove series!!! Right now I have 15 books of hers, some hardcopies, some ebooks. I love the way that she writes her stories. And I recently found out that Cedar Cove is on Netflix!!! I can't wait to start it (finishing up the GG reboot).. I was so excited to find out that it was on there!! Debbie Macomber brings her stories to life!! I can follow along well with the scenery, what her characters look like, what they're feeling, and I feel like I know them personally!! Some of them I wish I did know! She has great characters and wonderful storylines. You Will want more of her books!!!
